| Who doesn’t
know Tadoussac, the oldest village in Canada, which
celebrated in the year 2000, its 400 years ?
Tadoussac,
a small village surrounded by hills conjures up: wooded,
rocky coasts: the majesty of the St Lawrence River,
the Saguenay Fjord ( the only one in North America),
the huge dunes, a lovely lake in the village, charming
old houses, and many activities will help you enjoy
your stay. The charming beauty of the Bay of Tadoussac
made it, in 1998, a member of the Select
Club of the World's Thirty Most Beautiful Bays.
This made Tadoussac North America’s first official
member of the Club.
Tadoussac
became the first Canadian municipality to celebrate
its 400th anniversary. In fact, Tadoussac occupies a
special place in our history. Jacques Cartier was captivated
by the beauty of the bay during his second trip in 1535.
Is was here, where the Saguenay River Fjord meets the
St Lawrence River, that Pierre de Chauvin (1599) and
Samuel de Champlain (1603) later wrote the first pages
of European history in North America. In 1600. Tadoussac
was the site of the first official fur trading post
in Canada.
In
1866, the Tadoussac and Sea Barhing Co. built the first
red roof hotel in Tadoussac, which shines like a beckoning
light. For more than 150 years, the village has been
our oldest resort, and has been able to inspire local
people as well as visitors. Year and after year, it
welcomes some 300 000 visitors fascinated by the beauty
of this natural site and the wealth of its heritage.
For an extended journey or a short stay, whether you
are a nature lover, a whale watcher, a music fan, a
history buff of fine gourmet, you will spend some memorable
moments in Tadoussac.
