MUSEUMS AND INTERPRETATION CENTERS

Four museums and interpretation centers will help you discover the rich heritage of historic and natural Tadoussac. Interested in whales? Then you must visit the CIMM. A true history buff? The Chauvin Trading Post and the Maison des Dunes are yours to discover the village's history. A stopover at the Chapelle de Tadoussac (Tadoussac Chapel ) will allow you to unwind and to meditate on the enthralling beauty of the surroundings.

The Trading Post is a reconstruction of the first trading post built in the year 1600 by Pierre Chauvin de Tonnetuit. The exhibit covers five subjects:pre-history, the meeting of two nations, trading, the oil trade (whale hunting ) and the trading post. For all history lovers, there is a thrilling videotheque, guided tours and dedicated guides eager to answer all your questions. A full account of the First Nations of Quebec and the region.

The C.I.M.M.is a unique exhibition of its kind where one learns and has fun at the same time. There you'll discover the fascinating and mysterious world of the St-Lawrence whales. Where can one see them? How to recognize them? The Groupe de Recherche et d'Éducation sur le Milieu Marin (GREMM) can enhance your understanding of these legendary mammals. They'll share with you all the information obtained through the research program of the GREMM. Exhibition, aquarium, skeleton collection and reconstitutions of sea-mammals, films and slide-shows...not to be missed.

During the summer, in evening only, the room of conference of the CIMM becomes also room of spectacle, in other during
the Festival de la chanson de Tadoussac. Go-therefore to make a small turn in the heading spectacles to see ....

La Maison des Dunes- House Dunes

The Saguenay Park now welcomes visiting tourists to Tadoussac at the Maison des Dunes, located at approximately 5 km north-west of the village along the rue des Pionniers. The Saguenay Park salvaged the Heritage house and converted it into an interpretation center. A permanent exhibition and a team of naturalists will explain the phenomenon of these sand dunes.

L'observation des oiseaux de Tadoussac- Bird- watching at Tadoussac : during the fall season, La Maison des Dunes becomes a bird-watching observatory. Members and volunteers guiding the Jeunes Explo (young explorers) capture and band the birds in order to learn more about the state of health of our avifauna populations which nest in the Far-North of Quebec. These activities take place early in the morning or at the end of the day.

The chapel, also known as "Indians chapel", was built in 1747. A first mass was celebrated by the Jesuits on June 24, 1750. Designated as a Heritage Site of national importance in 1965, it is now preserved and protected. with loving care. It still contains several period religious objects and is the oldest existing log-built church in Canada. A missionary's life is interpreted by an independant guide on location. To enter the Petite Chapelle is an emotional plunge into the past.

To plunge in the universe fascinating of the woodcarving. A shop visit of Mr Hovington will make you discover the richness of its art. You will be able to see it with work while it works in its workshop where it will answer your questions cordially. The visit of the Shop will pack you and you will be able to choose there ornaments which you will bring back on your premise with pride. Also discover its marine characters, statues and mammals which are deployed in the locality of Tadoussac.

The workshop is open of 9hrs to 20hrs and the visits are free.
