PARKS AND TRAILS

Tadoussac's magnificent environment spurred the creation of two parks: a federal one, the Saguenay - St-Lawrence marine Park and another federal-provincial one, the Saguenay Park. The mission of both parks is to protect the land and maritime ( Marine Park ) environment for future generations.
To access to some trails of park Saguenay, you'll need an autorisation ( 1-877-272-5229.)

 

MARINE PARK OF THE SAGUENAY - SAINT-LAURENT

The marine park includes/understands a whole part of the Saguenay River thus started from the St. Lawrence, of Cape-with-l'Aigle in Escoumins. Cold and salted water ocean Atlantique makes surface and creates a medium rich in krill (shrimps) and capelans (small fish), food of choice of the whales.

Main goal of the marine Park of Saguenay - the St. Lawrence east to preserve the richness of this ecosystem as complex as fragile for the present generations and future.

Sentier de la colline de l'Anse à l'Eau -or de la Coupe trail: (30 minutes walk ) Offers a unique panorama. Located in the heart of the village, the hill juts out over the village of Tadoussac and offers a 360 degrees view of the Saguenay, the river and the village itself. It's a peaceful place where you'll be able to catch on film some astonishingly beautiful scenery .

Sentier de la Pointe de l'Islet-Trail ( 20 minutes walk): starts at the wharf. You'll be able to participate in some free activities offered by the naturalists of the park. Interpretation signs along the trail enable you to discover, at your own pace, the sea-shore scenery and its treasures. It's an ideal spot for a picnic while you watch the passing boats, finback whales or even white whales (belugas ) that come cavorting at the mouth of the Saguenay. This trail is partially accessible for persons with reduced mobility and trollers.

Path of beach (6 km-two hours of walk): Unfortunately this path is now closed following the landslides, which occurred, winter last. The Park of Saguenay does not go responsible for the accidents that could occur there. Thank you!

The path of the view-point, (1,2 km), classified easy, accessible with the right access to the Park, with parking, Count with picnic and splendid point of view on the sand Dunes and the river. Departure of the House of the Dunes.

Sentier du Fjord-Trail (42 km or 12 km): between baie Sainte Marguerite ( Sacre-Coeur ) and Tadoussac: 42 or 12 km, a must, at least once in a lifetime. A shuttle service ( Auberge Internationale 235-4372 ) can be arranged to return to Sacre-Coeur. Brace yourself for some unforgettable moments! Spectacular and varied landscapes from the capes.

La Baie Sainte-Marguerite is the starting point of the Fjord trail. Three days of hiking (for experimented hikers), with fantastic vistas of the Saguenay Fjord. The end of this trail is located at Tadoussac, near the fish-breeding station. Lodging is supplied in shelters
(reservations required : 1-877-252-5229 ).

  • first shelter, located at Anse a la Barge, just 4 km from the starting point. You may even get a chance to see the white whales (belugas ) on their way to Baie Sainte-Marguerite or on their way back.

  • second shelter, located at Anse Creuse, was built on a protruding rocky slab overlooking the Saguenay, and just the sunset on the fjord alone will make you want to stay!. (Six twin -bed rooms, kitchen nook and fireplace ).

  • third shelter, located on Cap de la Boule. Spectacular view of the Saguenay.

THE SAND DUNES:

The activities of the Saguenay Park at Tadoussac take place in three areas: the sand dunes or Moulin Baude, Pointe de l'Islet or on the terrace in front of the Hotel Tadoussac.

The Sand Dunes of Tadoussac are certainly one of the most beautiful part of Tadoussac. Here was the first village, now disappeared . The white pine forest covering the plateau was all cut down to feed the mill and the farms were established on the newly lumbered land. But the topsoil was very thin and now it's a desert.
In 40's years, there was a special sport at the dunes the Sand Skiing. Until 1984, there were a lost of competition , with people from everywhere.
In 1984, the Park sahuenay buy the dunes and a stone house at the Molson Family and made a conservation area.
An absolute must if you are traveling with children, they will love it. here, you can run, jump, lumble, slide or slither down, frontwards or backwards , on your feet, tummy or back.
Interpretation center: the history of the first village. The sand skiing club, the sawmill and the dam. The origins of the sand terrace.
